It's my 100 blog post!
It's my 100 blog post, I wanted to make it special. By blogging about my dad.
Sometimes you never notice things that surround you everyday. In my case, it was my dad's love and hobby of sewing. When I went back home to Nebraska during Thanksgiving, I went to the basement to grab some "pop" - as we call it in the midwest. But something caught my eye. The colors and abundance of thread. I quickly grabbed my camera and started shooting. Then asked my dad questions. As a child, I never cared. But as an adult I was amazed. My dad owns 14 sewing machine. Most of them collector, antique items. Others were speciality machine and two he uses on a regular basis.
My dad IS my "god". His beliefs, mindset, and values are imprinted in me. He's such a humble man. We didn't grow up with much money, but my dad taught us to never let anyone be superior to us, to respect ourselves, and grow up strong. To love life and as long as we were happy, him and my mom were happy for us. My parents brought us to America in 1980, with nothing but the clothing on our backs. My dad would sew for a living, trying to provide for our family. With his back hurting and fingers going numb. He sat there and sewed. We were immigrants who had nothing, nothing but love and hope. Still today, we carry that on. Always knowing where we came from and where we will be one day. My dad has always put my mom on a pedestal, that's a quality I want in a man. My dad is the foundation of our family. =)
Although, i live 1000 miles away from them, when I see a sewing machine or a roll of thread i'm reminded of how hard my dad worked to give my mom and my 5 sisters a better life in a country so unfamiliar to us.
