I recently went back to my hometown of Grand Island, NE and put my house on the market, packed my parents up, and moved them to Atlanta, GA to come live with my sister and I. As a kid, I wanted nothing more than to leave that hick town and explore. I felt shelter, trapped, and knew I was missing out on the rest of the world. I was always so disappointed that my parents chose to settle in Nebraska. Why couldn't they chose California or Texas like the rest of the Laotion community? But I lived there for 23 yrs. After college, I took the first opportunity and headed west. That didn't last long. Now 10 yrs later, my parents have chosen to take the same path. 

Nebraska was their home for more than 30yrs. Although, it was a hard transition for them, they knew they were getting older and it was the better choice. For me, it was bitter sweet. I finally have my parents close to me. But now I didn't get to go back to the place I called my hometown. When I needed a break from the fast pace life of ATL, I couldn't just take a 16 hour drive or 1.5hr flight and just do nothing while in my parents home. I'll be missing all the good food I grew up with. All the cornfields, all the memories. They would only be a vision in my head. So as my title states....Georgia on my mind, but my heart will ALWAYS be in Nebraska!
